PUMA today introduced the latest evoPOWER 1.2 football boot with a blazing new make-over. The high risk red and sea pine coloured boot will be exclusively launched on pitch by Cesc Fàbregas, who will wear it when his team Chelsea FC have to face Manchester United this Saturday night. After the weekend, the boot will also be worn by Olivier Giroud, Mario Balotelli, Dante and many other international football players.

The evoPOWER 1.2 with all its innovative technologies is made for power and accuracy when kicking the ball. Taking its inspiration from the movement of a barefoot, the boot provides maximum flexibility, which has an increased impact on the shooting power. The boot’s lightweight and super soft upper material stretches in a longitudinal not lateral direction allowing a freedom of movement while maintaining support. Accuracy is further improved with the GripTex print that runs across the full length of the upper, providing enhanced ball control in all weather conditions.

Added precision is created through the lightweight AccuFoam lining that provides a clean kicking surface.

The colours of the new evoPOWER 1.2 take its inspiration from the Japanese dragon, a traditional symbol for speed, power, wisdom and agility. The sea pine heel counter features a dragon skin graphic print, whilst the white formstripe create a striking contrast on the high risk red upper.

Speaking about the boot, Cesc Fàbregas said, “The new evoPOWER boot absolutely matches my taste, and as a Spaniard I can’t resist a red boot. It looks really striking and the heel with the dragon skin graphic gives it a special look. When I was told I will be the first player to wear it this weekend when we play Manchester United I naturally thought it was a real honour. It is an important match, and Manchester will be hard to beat as every point counts so close to the end of the season.”

adidas launches its latest campaign for the new spring/summer 2015 Climachill product range, featuring international football star Gareth Bale. Climachill is adidas’ most advanced cooling technology ever, promising to keep the wearer up to 36% cooler than previous adidas clothing.

As the sun starts to rear its beautiful and much-needed self, this is a welcome addition to handle performance and training as the heat rises.

The SS15 colourway is a departure from the norm, offering a sleek, all-black look that still keeps the wearer cooler than ever – even in the height of summer.

This video is damn good.

Thanks to its cutting edge instant cool sensation, advanced breathability and supreme heat and moisture transfer capabilities, the range keeps body temperatures under control even in the hottest conditions. The technology enables athletes of all levels to train harder, run longer and stay focused, enhancing performance whether in training or in the intensity of competition.

CLIMACHILL_SS15_BALE_ACTION_1_HORIZONTAL

The adidas Climachill range has been revolutionary in active cooling technology due to its uniquely engineered design profile: industry-first 3D aluminum-cooling spheres are strategically located on the back and neck to correspond with the warmest area of the body, and provide an instant cooling sensation on contact.

A micro fibre fabric allows the garment to act like mesh and transports excess moisture away from your skin. The revolutionary SubZero flat yarn contains titanium and maximises surface contact with skin, transferring more heat away from the body.

Real Madrid FC, Champions League winning footballer Gareth Bale commented on the new member of the Climachill range:

‘Moving from England to Spain meant getting used to a different country, culture, language and of course playing in warmer weather. adidas’ cooling technology regulates my temperature and releases excess moisture from my body, enabling me to perform at my best even in hot conditions.

The new black training t-shirt is the perfect example of sports apparel that looks cool and keeps you cool.’

Dr Maarten Hupperets, Director of Future Sport Science at adidas explained why it is important to consider body temperature during working out:

‘Activity in high ambient temperatures offers a particular challenge to the human thermoregulatory system. Humans strive to maintain a stable body core temperature of about 37°C. In response to exercise, as metabolic demand and heat production increases, the body core temperature can increase up to 3°C in warm ambient conditions.

To maintain a stable body core temperature, the human body will make efforts to lose excess heat. Climachill has been rigorously tested in our state-of-the-art Clima chamber as high as 122°F/50 degree Celsius exactly to find the best possible answer to facilitate body cooling. We are confident that our innovation and coolest t-shirt ever helps athletes of every level keep at their peak optimum temperature to perform at their best in any conditions’.

Overall, it’s a smart range – high in quality, championing elite performance. Style wise, it’s minimalist on the surface which is very much a good thing – I’m enjoying the bigger adidas performance logos that are appearing on more products. Big, bold, assertive.

The new range includes tees, tanks and shorts, designed for training, running, football, tennis and cycling. It is available now from a pretty affordable £18 at http://www.adidas.co.uk and in selected retailers nationwide.

The curtain call on this seasons European football is imminent and a whole bunch of finale’s are on the horizon. Champions League, FA Cup, Europa League, The Premier League, Football League, La Liga, Serie A and so many more up and down the land will reach their conclusion.

Winners will be championed and losers will lamented. The most intense part of the season is upon us.

It’s only fitting that Nike release their ‘Intense Heat Pack’, matching those pressures with warm hues and striking colourways that symbolise the intensity and high pressure of this critical juncture in the season.

All four of the bright uppers are united by the same color-shifting Swoosh. The lenticular effect on the Swoosh creates depth and variance in its color, which will appear prominently purple on the pitch. The cool tones of the Swoosh offset the warm shades of the upper for a stunning contrast in this colorful pack.

We’ve been fortunate enough to feature the work of Steve Welsh on a few occasions. Arguably, he is one of the biggest and best names in the creative world of football. Striking up a client list that includes the BBC and adidas to name a couple.

Notably, his work for the BBC for the 2014 World Cup coverage, that was nothing short of incredible. You can see heaps of his delights, here.

On this occasion though, we’re celebrating the completion of his A-Z series of football. Illustrating and designing some of the biggest names to have graced the game, it is the perfect coming together of football and it’s creative offerings.

Discovering that little bit more about a boot, it’s inspiration and design led themes is always great to see. adidas have gone further with a Q&A with the design consultant who worked with the adidas football team to create Leo Messi’s unique Pibe de Barr10 boots.

“I love to think of Leo as an artist, his canvas is the court, brushes are his legs, the ball, his muse, and when he scores… his masterpiece.”Ignacio Valentini

What is the design inspiration behind the Pibe de Barr10 boot?

The entire collection was focussed on the idea of representing the beginnings of Messi’s
football career – his neighbourhood, the streets of Rosario, the square where he used to play, the school. Once we’d individuated the graphic style of each scenario to be narrated with images, we set to work.

140120_Messi_TP_Q2

I asked some friends in Rosario, my home town, to help me out with a photographic shooting of Las Heras’ neighbourhood, where Messi grew up – perspectives, particulars, panoramics – everything that could capture the essence of who until today still remains “un pibe de barrio*” as well as being the best player in the world.

*uptown boy

Can you tell us more about the design specifics around Rosario, and how they relate to Leo Messi’s footballing style?

The idea was to create a design which could merge the originality of Leo’s style with the
authenticity of the place where he grew up. Bring to life the roots of the place he was born and raised. And so, his playing style was represented by swift, instinctive , unexpected brushstrokes, as if to imitate the now trademark Messi moves – sudden changes of direction, explosive acceleration or just a masterful touch to take it past another player. No matter whether you are in the defence or behind a camera, you just can´t keep up with his dribbling pattern.

Angle_03_Full Boot_2x1

The neighbourhood was represented in the style of street art, reflected in every corner of the streets. The images were reworked with stencils, spray and roll in order to obtain a “street” mood.

I love to think of Leo as an artist, his canvas is the court, brushes are his legs, the ball, his muse, and when he scores… his masterpiece.

What was it like working with adidas and Leo Messi?

It was a pleasure and honour to work with adidas Football for the Pibe de Barr10 apparel and footwear collection for the world’s best player, my fellow citizen Leo Messi.
Thanks to this project, I had the opportunity to work with designers from different countries, from different cultural backgrounds, in an extremely stimulating and creative environment.

How were you initially approached by adidas?

The Head of design of at adidas Football Gerald Kuhtz noticed me and my work. I greatly thank both he and Team Messi for the attention I received during my visit to the adidas Headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Cool to think how these things come about. The imagery is fantastic. Great to see this come to life. Superb boots.

In the first in a couple of posts this morning dedicated to beautiful football kits, we kick off with the new away kit for The Netherlands National Football Team. Representing what a nations footballing culture is all about is a tough ask but that is what Nike have set out to do with this number which combines the country’s evocative national colors with a unique graphic design that captures the exhilarating speed of their football. Cool hey?

The Dutch are renowned for their speed and attacking style of play, moving the ball around the pitch quickly and surging forward at pace. The kit design represents the speed, movement and energy of the national team and combines innovative graphics with the iconic classic Dutch color palette of orange and white. After appearing on the cover of the latest Green Soccer Journal, photographed brilliantly too I might add, Gregory Van Der Wiel is clearly a leader in the football cool department.

SW15021_NIKE_FBR15_NTK_Gregory_PR_6178_2_125_HFR5_39260

He’s naturally involved in this kit launch, noting; “This is a beautiful looking kit, really fresh but classic, and represents the Dutch spirit. When I put it on I feel inspired to play well for my country, the team and the fans,”

Sp15_NTK_Netherlands_PR_A_Crest_R_38915

The shorts feature a printed gradient speed graphic consisting of orange and white light rays, which extends up the side panels of the shirt to represent their distinctive style of football.

Sp15_NTK_Netherlands_PR_Hollow_Short_R_39267

The innovative graphic on the shorts creates a strong sense of motion and a blur of color and light when the Dutch players are in action. SERIOUSLY ACE SHORTS.

The color in the graphic is most intense in the middle and the deep hue comes together near the waist on the shorts and on the hem of the shirt before gradually becoming lighter down the shorts and up to under the arms of the shirt.

SP15_FB_WE_NTK_Holland_VanderWeil_Action_Hi_res_38911

The white base of the away shirt amplifies the famous saturated orange of the home shirt in the graphic, crest and numbers. The renowned Dutch graphic designer and typographer Wim Crouwel created a special font for the names and numbers on the kit. The bold and modern font also maintains a distinctly retro appearance, reminiscent of the style seen throughout football during the 1970s.

Sp15_NTK_Netherlands_PR_A_Venting_R_38914

The away shirt continues to feature the enlarged lion symbolizing Dutch football values of simplicity, honor and unity. A pennant tab inside the back of the neck displays the crown that sits upon the lion’s head on their association’s crest.

Sp15_NTK_Netherlands_PR_A_Full_Body_R_38912

The new away socks are white with a wide tonal stripe of chevrons on the calf at the back.

While the new kit features Nike’s signature style and passion, it has also been designed to offer players the very latest in performance innovation, kit technology and environmental sustainability.

The new away kit will be available in stores and at nike.com starting March 21.

Boots that reflect the man – Cristiano Ronaldo is certainly not short of glamour. Winning is always his number one aim and with winning comes silverware.

This latest addition to the Mercurial Superfly CR7 collection is inspired by trophies.

Leveraging the unique shimmer effect that initially debuted in black last October. The new colorway is inspired by the silver trophies elite players like Ronaldo pursue this time of year. The shimmering silver accompanies an obsidian Dynamic Fit collar and an orange pop of color on the Swoosh and the CR7 logo.

Su15_FB_Mercurial_Superfly_Plate_V1_38314

The Mercurial Superfly CR7 Silverware is built for speed. The Dynamic Fit collar helps the boot act as an extension of the body and locks down the foot at full velocity. The micro-textured Nike Flyknit upper provides a barefoot-like feel that gets the foot closer to the ball and closer to the ground for increased control. A highly responsive carbon-fiber plate is designed to provide explosive speed on the pitch.

How incredible are these?

The Mercurial Superfly CR7 Silverware will be available exclusively via the Nike Football App on March 18 and on nike.com March 20.
