adidas has today revealed a boot made heel to toe from their revolutionary Primeknit material. The adidas Primeknit 2.0 is the latest update of the original Primeknit boot, launched and worn on pitch last year by Luis Suarez.

The all-new Primeknit 2.0 model brings together two key adidas innovation projects – the original Samba Primeknit boot, and the Primeknit FS (Footy Sock) prototype; which was a “concept” boot presented by adidas in 2014.

Based on the construction insights gained from the Primeknit FS, the Primeknit 2.0 comes enhanced with “compression fit” technology. An all-new compression tongue includes Lycra yarns designed to wrap around the midfoot area and create a maximum lockdown effect. The boot also features a new anatomical heel shape and design, following the natural shape of the back of the foot to provide optimum support.

The forefoot contains a knit structure specifically designed to aid control. The control knit structure offers 3D texture that combines ultimate ball control with unrivalled manoeuvrability and traction by way of the f50 adizero outsole.

The “outer shell” of the Primeknit 2.0 comprises of a zoned knitted upper with a lightweight vacuum coated skin to protect the yarns and retain a soft surface, meaning the boot is at home in any weather, on any pitch.

The high risk red and sea pine coloured boot will be exclusively launched on pitch by Cesc Fàbregas, who will wear it when his team Chelsea FC have to face Manchester United this Saturday night. The evoPOWER 1.2 with all its innovative technologies is made for power and accuracy when kicking the ball. Taking its inspiration from the movement of a barefoot, the boot provides maximum flexibility, which has an increased impact on the shooting power. The boot’s lightweight and super soft upper material stretches in a longitudinal not lateral direction allowing a freedom of movement while maintaining support. Accuracy is further improved with the GripTex print that runs across the full length of the upper, providing enhanced ball control in all weather conditions.

Added precision is created through the lightweight AccuFoam lining that provides a clean kicking surface.

The colours of the new evoPOWER 1.2 take its inspiration from the Japanese dragon, a traditional symbol for speed, power, wisdom and agility. The sea pine heel counter features a dragon skin graphic print, whilst the white formstripe create a striking contrast on the high risk red upper.

It looks really striking and the heel with the dragon skin graphic gives it a special look. The eye-catching boot, rigorously tested for tear strength and abrasions, has been created in adidas’ adizero speed range and is aimed at enhancing player performance through added raw speed and agility, whilst still ensuring players are suitably protected in an increasingly fast and competitive game.

99Gram__PR_4000x2000px_04

Talking about the design as part of the forthcoming adidas Gamedayplus episode due to launch on the adidas Football YouTube channel at 2045hrs CET this evening, adidas Product Manager Hazim Kulak said:

“Player feedback is at the heart of everything we do in football, and the reduction of weight is important to players as weight is a powerful driver for speed. This reduction in weight assists players in performing to the highest level and continues adidas’ commitment to being on the cutting edge of technology in football. We are incredibly proud of this design and believe it will only help players develop and improve their game.”

99Gram__PR_4000x2000px_06

99Gram__PR_4000x2000px_07

Ground-breaking features of the 99g boot include:

• 1mm polyamide outsole which reduces weight but has the rigidity to perform at the highest level

• Extremely lightweight upper layer made from a single layer of woven polyester mesh

• Unique stud layout to ensure fastest possible movements in all directions

The new adizero 99g is around half the weight of a regular boot. Regardless of the weather conditions, the material is always 99g, unlike synthetic or leather boots which simply get heavier when wet.

Ahead of the legendary Manchester Derby, Sergio Agüero and Radamel Falcao met up for a showdown at a secret location in Manchester.

Aguero and Falcao - Head To Head for PUMA in Manchester 27/1/15

The two South Americans went Head to Head and showed of their skills, taking each other on in front of a hundred football fans in red and blue.

The clash took place on a unique square pitch, featuring four goals covered by sliding doors that were operated by the fans to keep the players on their toes.

This is damn cool. Would love a kick about in a cage like that…

As one goal opened another one shut in a new style of football that tested the South American International’s every ability. Agüero’s guile and speed were a good match for Falcao’s power and pace, with some outrageous skill on display.

Marking the occasion, both players also took part in a Q&A – first up Agueeeeeeeeero.

What is so special about the Manchester Derby?

The Manchester derby is really special, maybe City used to always be the smaller team, with United often being the favourites to win. That has changed a lot though in recent years, and we’ve had some great moments at their place. But I actually think a derby is always something special. When two big teams from the same city meet, it always creates an amazing atmosphere, there is no worse thing than losing against your neighbour. With other teams it is different, you leave after the match, or they leave your city. At a derby, you still live in the same place, so when you go out the day after a defeat, it feels like the other team owns the place.

What does it feel like to score against Man United? You have done it 6 times already…

I always love to score, but of course it is even more special to score in the big games. If you score against United at Old Trafford it almost give you shivers, because you can feel the tense atmosphere with most of the stadium being really quiet, but the away end going crazy,. At home at it is different, when the City supporters are really loud in these games, it sometimes gives me goose bumps when they sing sing my name.

Do you think you will be able to score again this weekend at the next Derby?

I think so, yes (laughs). No, honestly, I am in good condition at the moment so I’m feeling confident. But it doesn’t matter who scores of course, as long as I can play well and we go home with 3 points in our pocket. That would make me a happy man.

Who is the best striker at Manchester United?

They have a number of very talented strikers. The one who in his career has been the most predatory is Falcao. He isn’t having an easy time this season, but I really admire his commitment and his class and qualities are permanent. He is probably one of the most naturally gifted strikers in football at the moment.

What do you think about Manchester United’s recent performances?

Manchester United is a team with a lot of great individual players, which can form an incredible when they work well together. But this season that has not always been the case. Some matches they don’t seem to play at the maximum, with the attacking qualities that they have in the team. But then in other games, they have really shown that those qualities, so they are a bit unpredictable. We know, we will have to be at our very best to beat them – there’s no doubt about that.

What is your favourite thing about Manchester as a city?

The people, and their love for football. Of course they are quite different to Argentineans, but I really like their sense of humour and friendliness, and the general atmosphere in the city is always good. It rains a lot here, but they don’t care, the people in Manchester take things as they are and make the best of it. They have a good attitude to life.

Do you still believe you can win the league this year?

Of course we can still win it. In football, anything can happen – as soon as you think something is certain, then everything changes, we have seen it so many times before and we’ll see it again. We only focus on ourselves, try to win every game we play and keep pressure on Chelsea.

Aguero and Falcao - Head To Head for PUMA in Manchester 27/1/15

And the big man, Falcao:

What does the Manchester Derby mean to you?

In Manchester, the derby means a lot. Unfortunately I didn’t play in the derby earlier this season, but you could sense the atmosphere in the city more for a week before the match itself, it was all people were talking about. It really means a lot to our fans and theirs, so of course I’d be thrilled to play in this match on Sunday. The atmosphere will be phenomenal.

Who will win on Sunday?

I feel it will be very close, but I think we will win. We’re in good form at the moment, and the fans will give us a big lift at home, so I believe we have a very good chance get the 3 points. The situation in the table is really close still, so a win for us will keep our momentum, which is what we need for the rest of the season.

Who is the most dangerous player in the Manchester City?

They are a very talented team, with a danger all over the pitch, but Sergio Agüero has been a really dangerous player for Manchester United in the past matches. He scored many goals, and always needs to be watched carefully. If there is one player more than others to watch out for, I’d say it is Agüero. City has now won the derby 4 times in a row, so we really want to break this pattern.

It is hard to be patient when you’re not playing regularly, do you find that frustrating?

Every football player wants to play, that’s very normal. But I respect the manager and the decisions he makes. I keep working hard in training, learning every day how to play in different systems, in different styles of football. Manchester United is a great club, I am very happy to be here and because of this I am happy to be patient.

Everyone has owned one of those knackered balls in the past. Torn up by the courts they were played on, there was usually very little left by the time you got a new one.

Equally, if you had the ball, you brought the rule. How many of us can remember the ‘not my ball mate’ follow up response when a fresh player wanted to join a game?

Naturally, there has been a technical product evolution in the world of football. Most brilliantly for us though, the relationship between football and design has been flourishing.

The stunning ‘Neo Pro’ from Umbro is testament to this.

Made up of various panels it takes the striking pink double diamond and puts it in the prime space of cool.

Eye catching whether static or spinning, this ball is beautiful from whatever angle you look at it.

Putting design along side performance, its aesthetics are as impressive. On the pitch, on court or in your studio – it is football appreciated.

In the words of the brand:

A unique 14-panel design offers a clean strike zone and true, natural flight, with the Hexadimple outer casing designed in conjunction with Teijin offers superb elasticity and a softer touch.

Often the last element to be looked at, it is the heart of the game – we can look at a thousand different boots but this is the thing we’re all trying to get in the back of the net. It is the game.

Umbro have smashed this – it’s an exciting time for the brand and this ball is symbolic of that. You can find out more and get your hands on one here.

We’ve seen many clubs we re-imagined and re-branded by talented followers of the game. Designers worldwide, united by that passion to use their talents and apply them to the football world.

Thinking about it, there are few ways to make football manager better but designing your own team brand and kits could take it to a whole new level. Oh how I long for the addition, as a manager, to decide whether we re-brand in house or extend it to an external agency…I digress, clearly.

Luis Callegari is a talented chap, based in Argentina. He’s put together a brilliant variety of work relating to football that you can see on his behance page here.

Most recently, putting together a full suite of creative to support the J-League’s Yokohama Marinos. It’s brilliant. Personally, I’m a fan of all things nautical so a little sucker for this but it can most certainly be appreciated by all. A logo, Kits, scarves and more – he’s got it all covered in a superb fashion.

Massive fan.
