Stunning Diego Luna Short Film – Pepsi x Rita Ora x Switch

Diego Luna’s new short film – a lovely shot piece set in his hometown, Mexico City, highlighting the power that football has to bring joy and youthfulness to any community. It is well worth a watch:

The inspirational short tells the story of a group of young-at-heart senior citizens who form the Liga de Interclubes de Fútbol Soccer Amateur, to discard the weight of life and play the sport they love, showing us the joy the timeless game of football provides – no matter the age.

Having starred in the likes of Milk and The Terminal, Luna recently took to directing (with his first film César Chávez being released earlier this year) and has now tried his hand at short film with this filmtrack – the latest release from Pepsi Max’s Beats of the Beautiful Game visual album – an exclusive collection of 11 anthemic songs and companion short films, or ‘filmtracks,’ that capture the spirit, sights and sounds of football.

You may remember we featured the artwork for this last week. That’s been created by our fave’s ilovedust.

The film coincides with the official release of Rita Ora’s track “I Will Never Let You Down (Switch Remix)” – a fresh remix of her summer smash hit – which features in the short film, playing to the keen football players as they make the journey to the big game.

Ace isn’t it?

This is still my football video of the year. The passion of two school teachers, a zero budget and a really catchy song! http://youtu.be/byzZnFHDfz0

  2. Thanks for this lovely write-up on Diego’s new short. I do, however have to point out a couple of errors…Diego has contributed some amazing work to the film industry and he deserves the respect of his work being reported accurately. His film about Cesar Chavez is entitled, “Cesar Chavez, An American Hero”. It is a really important film title because of who Cesar Chavez was, what he did for this Country, what his lasting legacy is now and will continue to be, and what Diego’s hopes for this film are in educating a younger generation of Americans who most likely don’t even know about this incredible man and his contributions to our Country while also successfully re-living a moment in time, an important part of Cezars journey, with those who were there, or do remember the real thing with their real life hero. You also reported that the Cesar Chavez film was Diego’s first film as Director. This is not correct. “Cesar Chavez, An American Hero” is Diego’s 4th film as Director. This current project is also not his first short film as Director. All of this can be easily verified at imdb.com.
Diego’s directing projects: 1) J.C. Chavez (Documentary about the legendary boxer) THIS was his first directorial project. 2) Abel (Feature length drama written & directed by Diego) 3) Revolucion (A compilation of short films by a number of Mexican Directors celebrating the Mexican Revolution), Diego’s short is called, “Pacifico” 4) Cesar Chavez, An American Hero (Diego’s first feature length English language film)
Diego has also directed a number of music videos and TV commercials…one in particular that is popular is the 2014 Honda Civic Coupe Commercial featuring Mexico’s Kinky the Band singing “Gol Gol/The Futbol Song” and they are in the commercial as well.
Diego Luna is a pretty talented guy…both as an actor and a director and I think we will be seeing many good things coming from him in the near future!
